They Opposed My Selection As The Head Coach: Ravi Shastri

Former head coach of team India, Ravi Shastri was exceptional in his tenure. Under his guidance, India became a strong Test team and won quite a few overseas Test series. The only downside of Shastri’s tenure was the team was not able to win an ICC tournament.

Meanwhile, Shastri has recently made a few sensational comments about his selection as a head coach in 2017. He said that there were specific people who did not want him to return as the coach in 2017 when Anil Kumble resigned to his post.

Shastri’s first stint with Team India started in 2014. He was appointed as the team’s director at that time. Under his guidance, India qualified for the semifinals of two ICC tournaments, World Cup 2015 and T20 World Cup 2016. His tenure was ended in 2016.

Shastri said that BCCI didn’t give him a proper clarification for removing him from the post despite performing well as the team’s director. He said that it was hurting because of the manner in which it was done.

In 2016, Shastri applied for the head coach’s post once again but it was given to Kumble. In 2017, Shastri was called back after Kumble’s exit. He said that his return to the team was a sheer embarrassment for the people who didn’t want him on the support staff.

Shastri also stated that the very same people opposed the selection of Bharat Arun as the bowling coach. “But the very same guy went on to become the finest this country had,” said Shastri.
