IPL 2022 to be held in India without spectators

The world of cricket is gearing up for the upcoming edition of the Indian Premier League. Considering the ongoing COVID-19’s third wave situation in the country, BCCI is sketching different plans in hosting the league.

The BCCI and the IPL General Council held a meeting with the franchise owners the other day to discuss the possibilities of hosting an IPL venue in India. The franchises were also asked to give their other choices of hosting countries.

According to the reports, BCCI’s first option is to hold the tournament in India and won’t allow crowds to the stadium. If the situation worsens in the country, the tournament will be held in the cities of Mumbai and Pune. There are three stadiums in Mumbai and two stadiums in Pune. The transport and logistical transfer will also be easier in the corridor of Mumbai and Pune.

If there will be no chances of hosting the league in India, it may be held either in the UAE or in South Africa. Apparently, most of the franchises chose UAE as a second choice because it has been hosting the league for the last two years.

A few franchises have opted for South Africa as another hosting option. However, no team has chosen Sri Lanka to be the venue.

It is being heard that the league will mostly start in the last week of March and conclude in the last week of May. The mega auction will be held on February 12 and 13. The venue for the auction is yet to be decided.
