Slip of Tongue: Ex-Pak Cricketer apologizes to Aishwarya Rai

Abdul Razzaq, the former Pakistani cricketer, sparked controversy and faced backlash after making inappropriate comments about Indian actress Aishwarya Rai Bachchan during a discussion about the Pakistan cricket team’s performance in the Cricket World Cup 2023.

Razzaq’s remarks were widely criticized on social media, drawing condemnation from fans and fellow cricketers on both sides of the border.

During an open debate with former cricketers Umar Gul and Shahid Afridi, Razzaq made offensive comments about Aishwarya Rai, linking them to criticism of the Pakistan Cricket Board.

In response to the controversy, Abdul Razzaq issued a public apology, stating that his comment about Aishwarya Rai was a “slip of the tongue.” He apologized to Aishwarya Rai personally and clarified that he did not intend to hurt anyone’s sentiments.

Former Pakistani Bowler Shoaib Akhtar also called out Razzaq’s controversial statement by tweeting, “I highly condemn the inappropriate joke/comparison made by Razzaq. No woman should be disrespected like this. People seated beside him should have raised their voices right away rather than laughing & clapping.”
