Shocking everyone, Rohit Sharma opted out of the playing eleven for the fifth test of BGT on Friday. He is the captain of the team, and realizing his poor performance, he has taken a drastic step. Now, it has put his captaincy for the ODIs in a dilemma. In all possible cases, Rohit Sharma might get replaced by Hardik Pandya as the captain of Team India for the forthcoming Champions Trophy.
Although it is not officially confirmed yet, Hardik Pandya is the front-runner to replace Rohit Sharma in the leadership role ahead of the all-important ICC Champions Trophy. Pandya has prior experience of leading the team India in the white ball format, and he can deliver results even in situations of pressure.
Rohit Sharma announced his retirement from T20 internationals after winning the T20 World Cup. Suryakumar Yadav took the rein, and now Bumrah is comfortable leading the team in the Tests. In all cases, Pandya is the next option for the team, provided BCCI takes the call to relieve Rohith from the responsibilities.
Team India’s performance in the fifth test has been disappointing. The team was all out on the first day itself. We will see if the situation changes in the next four days.
