Pakistan Cricket has experienced various crises over the last few years. An inconsistent team, disturbances among team members, and an incapable board have influenced Pakistan’s performance recently. After a gap of 29 years, Pakistan got a chance to host an ICC event in the form of the Champions Trophy this year. The entire nation pinned hopes on winning the title at home, but alas, Pakistan got knocked out within five days of the tournament.
The Champions Trophy started on February 19 with a match between Pakistan and New Zealand. The latter won the first game and crushed the host nation at home. In its second match, Pak faced a humiliating defeat against India. In order to qualify for the semis, Pak needed many results in its favour. However, by beating Bangladesh yesterday, New Zealand cruised into the semis, along with India, and crushed Pak’s semis hopes.
As a result, Pakistan was eliminated from the tournament in just five days. It will play its final and nominal game against Bangladesh on February 27. Until Pakistan Cricket is revamped by solving all existing issues, it will not bounce back anytime soon.
