IPL 2025: Crippled Mumbai Indians Loses Second Game In A Row

In the ninth match held tonight between Mumbai Indians and Gujarat Titans. The match was held at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. It was the hosts Gujarat Titans, who won the game by 36 runs.

Toss: Mumbai won the toss and chose to bowl first.

First Innings:

Despite losing the toss and being asked to bat first, Gujarat got a good start from its openers Shubman Gill (38) and Sai Sudharsan, who made a partnership of 78 runs for the first wicket. Finally, Hardik Pandya broke this partnership. Later, Buttler (39) and Sai Sudharsan made another 51-run partnership. With a solid batting performance from the top three batters, especially Sai Sudharsan (63), who scored his second consecutive fifty, Gujarat scored a commendable score of 196/8 in 20 overs. Mumbai’s captain Hardik Pandya (2/29) delivered an impressive performance with the ball.

Second Innings:

While chasing a big target of 197, Mumbai Indians lost opener Rohit Sharma’s wicket right in the first over. Another opener, Ryan Rickelton, got out in the fifth over. By losing both openers inside the powerplay, Mumbai was in a critical situation. Gujarat bowlers never allowed Mumbai to build momentum during this chase. Especially, Prasidh Kirshna (2/18) took big wickets of Tilak Varma (39) and Surya Kumar Yadav (48) in a crucial situation and turned the game towards his team. Once Surya and Hardik Pandya got out, Mumbai’s defeat was inevitable. By the end of 20 overs, they managed to make 160/6.

In a nutshell:

After a humiliating loss against CSK in the first game, Mumbai needed a strong comeback. Captain Hardik Pandya’s comeback raised hopes among the MI fans. However, the performance was not up to the mark on both the batting and bowling fronts. It’s not that Gujarat has completely dominated MI in the game. MI had its chances but never capitalised on it, be it in the first innings or the second innings. They never built the momentum and there was no intent shown. What was a strong team on paper has turned out to be a disaster on the field in the first two games. It has to be seen how they come back in their next game. On the other side, Gujarat, which lost the first game by a narrow margin, gave a good all-round performance in this match. Both batters and bowlers stuck to their plans and implemented them well. As a result, they were able to restrict Mumbai to a low score.

Scorecard: GT 196/8 (20 overs) and MI 160/6 (20 overs)

Next up: Gujarat Titans will next face Royal Challengers Bangalore on April 2. Mumbai Indians will take on Kolkata Knight Riders on March 31.
