IPL 2025: DC Win Against RR In A Super Over

The 32nd match of IPL 2025 was held between Delhi Capitals and Rajasthan Royals tonight at the Feroz Shah Kotla Stadium in Delhi. We got the first super over of this edition, and it was DC which won the match against Rajasthan by chasing 12 runs in four balls of the super over.

Toss: RR won the toss and chose to bowl first

First Innings:

After being invited to bat first, DC lost wickets of Jake Fraser McGurk and Karun Nair inside the powerplay. Later, Abhishek Porel (49) and KL Rahul (38) tried to build the innings with a partnership of 63 runs. Once they got out, Captain Axar Patel (34 off 14) and Tristan Stubbs (34* off 18) took the responsibility of keeping the scorecard ticking. Their quickfire knocks helped DC score 188/5 in 20 overs.

Second Innings:

Considering Delhi Stadium’s small dimensions, RR needed to capitalise powerplay to stay ahead in the chase. Openers Sanju Samson and Yashasvi Jaiswal gave exactly such a start. They made a partnership of 76 runs for the first wicket. That’s when Samson left the field when the ball hit him near the ribs. Later, Yashasvi Jaiswal made a half-century and got out. Even Nitish Rana scored a fifty and got out. DC bowlers bowled tightly in the latter half of the innings, which resulted in RR needing 23 off the last two overs. Dhruv Jurel and Shemron Hetmyer scored 14 off the 19th over. They needed 9 off the last over. However, Mitchell Starc bowled excellently and gave only 8 runs in that over, resulting in a super-over.

Super Over:

Mitchell Starc bolwed the super over to Riyan Parag and Shemron Hetmyer. After both of them hit two fours, Parag got run out off the free-hit ball, which was a wide one. The very next ball, Yashasvi Jaiswal got run out while trying for two runs. As a result, RR lost two wickets in five balls after scoring 11 runs.

With 12 runs to chase, DC sent KL Rahul and Stubbs to the crease. RR gave the ball to Sandeep Sharma. However, KL and Stubbs finished the game in just four balls and gave DC a thrilling win.

In a Nutshell:

DC was lagging behind in the game right from the beginning. Opener Jake Fraser McGurk once again continued his poor form and got out for a single digit. Last match’s super-performer, Karun Nair, got out for a duck in this game. Later, Porel and Rahul tried building the innings, but their low strike rate resulted in DC not scoring more than 200 in this game. RR bowlers also restricted them well until the death overs. It was Axar and Stubbs who scored well in the death overs and gave a defendable score to their team. On the other side, RR batters were comfortable in the chase right from the beginning. But DC bowlers bowled brilliantly in the last 10 overs and didn’t allow RR batters to score that easily, which resulted in a super over. This victory will take DC back to the top of the points table and increase their chances of qualifying for the playoffs. On the other side, RR is in a tricky situation by losing five of their first seven games. They need to win at least six of the next seven games to keep their hopes alive in the playoff race.

Scorecard: DC – 188/5 (20 overs) and RR – 188/4 (20 overs)

Up Next: Rajasthan Royals will take on Lucknow Super Giants on April 19. DC will play against the Gujarat Titans on April 19.
