We have already witnessed rain affected game in the knockout stages of the IPL as last night’s encounter between Mumbai and Punjab started belatedly due to the unexpected rains. In case the rain persisted and the game could not be held, then Punjab would have progressed to the finals due to the fact that they finished above Mumbai on the points table.
But for those wondering, what would be happening if it rains on finale night – June 3rd, here’s a look at the possibilities.
In case it rains profusely on June 3, then there is a reserve day – June 4. And if it rains profusely, even on the reserve day, the organisers will see if at least a 5-over contest can be held. And if that is also not possible, then Punjab will be declared as the title winner.
This is due to the fact that Punjab finish on the number one position on the table, and the rulebook says that the team that finishes above all in the finale will be declared as the winner.
So, RCB fans will be desperately praying to the rain gods to stay away from the Narendra Modi Stadium tomorrow night.
