Ashwin Lands CSK In Mess With Dewald Brewis

Chennai Super Kings had one of their worst ever seasons in the history of IPL as they finished at the bottom of the table in the 2025 season. But there was this one particular positive that was observed with the CSK side, and this was the inclusion of young batsman Dewald Brevis.

This young South African batsman was absolutely brilliant with the bat for Chennai after he was brought into the site at the halfway point as a replacement player. After his tremendous performance in the IPL this year, he continued the momentum for the South African national team as well. 

In this context, there are several discussions happening about the availability of Brevis in the next auction as he could fetch a big price in the open market. 

However, Chennai Super Kings have officially communicated that they have signed this young South African batsman on a permanent basis following the contractual agreement that was signed last year. Chennai have officially signed this talented batsman for an undisclosed fee, and he will not be a part of the auction next year.

This comes shortly after Ravichandran Ashwin had made a series of shocking comments against Chennai, where he said “CSK paid additional money to Brevis to sign him as a replacement. This was due to the fact that he wanted more money before he gained prominence and possible upscaling in the next auction.” 

The CSK has confirmed that they have followed all the protocols and regulations to sign Brevis. They had to clarify on this matter after the earlier statement from Ashwin created a big controversy.
