Shreyas Iyer in ICU – What Happened?

India’s ODI vice-captain and star batsman Shreyas Iyer has reportedly been admitted to a hospital in Sydney after suffering internal bleeding due to a rib cage injury sustained during the third match against Australia on Saturday. He was immediately placed under Intensive Care Unit due to the seriousness of the injury on the same day. However, his condition is yet to improve as per the latest reports.

Sources revealed that Iyer had dangerously low body vitals after the fall and was immediately rushed to the hospital as it appeared to be life threatening at that moment. He is being intensively monitored as there is no change in his condition even after two days. It is learnt that Shreyas Iyer could have suffered a splenic rupture, leading to internal bleeding.

According to an official statement by BCCI, “Scans have revealed a laceration injury to the spleen. He is under treatment, medically stable, and recovering well. The BCCI Medical Team, in consultation with specialists in Sydney and India, is closely monitoring his injury status. The Indian Team Doctor will remain in Sydney with Shreyas to evaluate his day-to-day progress”.

Iyer took a sensational catch while sprinting back from backward point to remove Alex Carey. Unfortunately, while holding on to the catch, he appeared to injure his left rib cage. He was taken to the hospital shortly after returning to the dressing room due to intense discomfort.
