Ro-Ko Comeback Brings Cheer For Indian Cricket Fans

Indian cricket team’s batting heavyweights Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli brought the much needed joy on the faces of millions of supporters with a strong show in the first One Day International against South Africa this Sunday in Ranchi. The dismal show in the two test match series against the same opponent last week has resulted in harsh criticism from all quarters.

Amid huge expectations from fans and the board’s uncertainty over their availability for the limited overs format in the coming days, both Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli demonstrated why they shouldn’t be written off so easily and also silenced critics with their terrific performances. While Rohit Sharma achieved a unique record with highest number of sixes in ODIs under his belt, Virat Kohli also made a big statement with his 52 ODI century.

Both Rohit and Kohli complemented each other and held the batting unit together with a century partnership. The duo looked in good touch with impeccable stroke play and immaculate timings as they made a mincemeat of the inexperienced South African bowlers.

While Rohit Sharma was dismissed for 57 runs, Kohli consolidated his innings in a typical strike rotating approach after an aggressive start to his innings and brought up his century to become the first cricketer with highest number of 100s in a single format. Kohli’s sublime innings ended at 135 runs and India posted a mammoth score of 349 runs.

With the display of their batting prowess, both Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli seem to have indirectly buried the ongoing debate whether the selection committee needs to consider them for the 2027 World Cup or not. They proved that there is still lot of cricket left in them in the twilight of their careers.
