Team India is currently witnessing a golden period in the ODI format as iconic players, Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma have returned to top farm. These two players have been the backbone of the Indian ODI team for a while now, and this is reflecting in the ICC rankings as well.
Coming to the topic now, the latest developments are suggesting that Virat Kohli has finally managed to beat Rohit Sharma to become the number 1 ranked ODI player in the world.
Incidentally, Rohit Sharma had been ranked the top most ODI batter in the world and he held on to this accreditation since 2025. And now at the status of 2026, it is Virat Kohli who has displaced Rohit in the latest ranking.
By scoring 785 points in the ranking system, Kohli is now the new number one ranked ODI batter in the world. Rohit Sharma slipped multiple positions as he went from 781 points to 775.
Incidentally, this happens to be the first time in five years that Virat Kohli has returned to the number one position in the ODI batsmen ranking. Kohli had earlier held this position back in 2021, and it took five years to regain this position now.
