One of the main in abilities that is being displayed by the Indian ODI team is the consistency factor. Every time we think the team is rounded enough to dominate the ODI format globally, they come up with faltering performances.
This was again on display in the second ODI game against New Zealand last night as India showcased their inability to maintain consistency.
After being put to bat first, India got to a decent score of 300, which was a competitive total on this challenging pitch. But the main problem came with the bowling performance in the second innings as Indian bowlers could not break through the New Zealand batting lineup.
When teams like New Zealand are able to beat India by margin of seven wickets in a big run chases, things are really not going good. This will prove to be a big problem when more powerful teams like Australia and England come against India in major tournaments.
On one hand, India is unable to explode without Rohit and Kohli in the batting department, and there is this blatant inability to pick up the wickets at crucial intervals without Jaspreet Bumrah. The transition from senior players to younger players is not happening efficiently.
We are not expecting India to win every single game that they play, but certainly a lot more consistency is expected from a team that is backed by the richest cricket board in the world and has the most promising young talent pool.
