For some strange reason, India has been finding it extremely hard to come up against New Zealand, even under home conditions. This was evident earlier in the case of the test series, where New Zealand swept away India by margin of 3-0.
This was followed by a bad ODI series earlier this month as India ended up losing this series 1-2 despite winning the first game.
And now the T20 series has officially started with the opening game being played between India and New Zealand at the Nagpur Stadium last night.
As expected, India made a strong start to the T20 series by winning the opening game comprehensively. This was largely due to the tremendous batting performance in the first innings as India scored 238 runs. In the end, India defeated New Zealand by margin of 40 runs to register a significant victory.
But the problem with India in the recent past has been that they have been able to start the series’ well but haven’t been able to close out the matches well. This was the case with the recent ODI series as well, considering that India ended up losing the final two games and subsequently, the whole series.
Now India will have to put up a strong performance in the T20 series, not just to make up for the ODI loss, but also the upcoming T20 World Cup.
India will have to be on the top of their game for the entire 5-match T20 series that started last night. There are four more games left, and India will have to win at least two of them to secure the series and enter the World Cup on a positive note. But at the same time, if India ends up losing even the T20 series, it would be a humiliation of epic proportions.
