The International Cricket Council (ICC) has announced the groups of the upcoming International T20 World Cup in Oman and the United Arab Emirates which will be held from October 17 to November 14.
The groups are made based on the rankings of the teams as of March 20, 2021. At first, there are eight teams divided into two groups. Group A consists of Sri Lanka, Ireland, Netherlands, and Namibia. Group B has Bangladesh, Scotland, Papua New Guinea, and Oman.
The winner and runner-up of each group will qualify for the Super 12 stage.
This stage consists of two groups once again. Group 1 features defending champions West Indies, along with England, Australia, and South Africa. The winner of Group A and runner-up of Group B will be the other two teams in this category.
Group 2 features India, Pakistan, New Zealand, Afghanistan, winner of Group B and runner-up of Group A. The top teams of Group 1 and Group 2 will be qualified for the semi-finals.
This is the first time after the 2019 World Cup, where India and Pakistan will be locking horns with each other.
