The Indian Premier League (IPL) has achieved another milestone despite the pandemic impact. In fact the 2021 edition of IPL registered some stunning number of TV viewership compared to last year (2020).
According to BCCI honorary secretary Jay Shah, the 2021 IPL has registered 12 million more viewers compared to last edition. After match number 35, IPL has reported 380 million TV viewers which is a remarkable feat by any cricket league in the world.
“I am delighted to share that #IPL2021 continues to register significant growth in viewership. 380 million TV viewers (till match 35). 12 million more than 2020 at the same stage. Thank you, everyone. It will only get more exciting from here on,” tweeted Jay Shah.
Star Sports network is the official broadcaster of IPL and the viewership will definitely translate into good revenue. But Star Sports network will be sharing this with BCCI as per the deal made.
On the contrary, the other day Star Sports India requested the BCCI to change the schedule of the last two games. Apparently the TRP of afternoon matches were reported low and so Star Sports India urged BCCI to rethink about the last two games.
October 8th happens to be the last day of league matches. SRH will be clashing with Mumbai Indians while Virat Kohli’s RCB will take on Delhi Capitals on the same day at the same time at different venues. This is for the first time the BCCI has scheduled two games concurrently.
