The new Covid-19 variant Omicron entered India the other day and a strict watch is being imposed on international travellers across all airports in the country. But in a shocking incident nine international passengers who reportedly travelled from the African continent have entered Andhra Pradesh in the last two weeks and now they are not reachable.

Around 50 international passengers made it to Vizag after landing at different airports in the country and in that three passengers from South Africa and six from Botswana are identified by the officials. When the officials tried to contact them, they were not answering the calls and a few of them are absconding.

With this the Vizag district administration went on a high alert and also launched a hunt to trace these missing passengers. The district administration officials suspect that the passengers arrived by road and rail and might have undergone RT-PCR test at the airport.

In view of this, screening has been placed at Vizag airport and officials are taking details of passengers who are arriving from abroad.

Meanwhile 12 international passengers who landed in Hyderabad, tested positive for Covid-19. They are shifted to TIMS in Gachibowli and their samples are sent for genome sequence to trace the Omicron variant.
