Shocking Transformation! ‘The Mummy’ Hero Is Barely Recognizable

‘The Mummy’ 1999 was a favourite film to many. It’s a straightforward action-adventure with plenty of action, humour and supernatural powers. It left its mark on the walk of fame and the film didn’t need today’s technology to be great. In fact, the 90s kids grew up obsessed with ancient Greek Mythology after watching this masterpiece.

One of the highlights of The Mummy was the handsome hunk, Brendan Fraser, the lead hero. The actor became an immediate Hollywood heartthrob when he starred in The Mummy franchise. He looked super charming, flaunting his chiselled body effortlessly. Fans fell in love with his quick wit, incredible athletic prowess and impressive mummy-fighting abilities.

But his shocking body transformation worried fans. His current appearance, which shows that he has gained a lot of weight, has caused a lot of discussions on social media. The actor gained weight as a preparation for his film The Whale where he plays a 270kgs morbidly obese recluse. Brendan essays the role of an English teacher suffering from obesity and depression who wants to reconnect with his estranged daughter.

Though the reason for the weight gain could be some of his comedy roles, fans want to see the old Brendan. From the once-sexy-man-alive to now obese look, movie lovers are left in shock.

Brendan Fraser’s Tragic Story:

The actor had previously taken some time away from acting as he struggled with a series of injuries after his work on The Mummy films. He had a partial knee replacement, work on his back, and even had to have work done on his vocal cords. Over the subsequent seven years, the constant surgeries and treatment meant Fraser was regularly in hospital.

Later, Brendan’s career was nosedived after he complained about an incident of sexual assault in 2003. After reaching arguably the height of his career, Fraser disappeared from Hollywood completely. The actor became deeply depressed after he was groped by Philip Berk, a South African-born journalist and then head of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, which hosts the Golden Globe Awards.

Furthermore, in 2007, the star’s difficult split from his ex-wife Afton Smith dealt another blow. The former couple finalised their divorce in 2008, and he was ordered to pay child support and alimony for their three children. By 2013, Fraser asked for his alimony to be reduced as he could no longer afford the US$900,000 (approx. $1.2 million) a year in payments.

After all these tragic tales in his life, fans are glad to know Fraser is beginning to return to Hollywood, with recent roles in Doom Patrol and Professionals and nearly five upcoming movies.
