Fantasy sports platform Dream11 has bagged the title sponsorship of Indian Premier League (IPL). This update is officially confirmed by IPL Chairman Brijesh Patel.
According to the reports, Dream11 won the bid for Rs 222 crores. Unacademy, Tata Sons, Patanjali, Reliance Jio, BYJU’s were in the race but the IPL panel picked Dream11 which bid for the highest amount.
Mobile brand VIVO was the earlier title sponsor of IPL. But due to the India-China stand-off at the border, there was wide criticism on China brands and also a call of boycott of China products. Before the IPL terminating the contract, VIVO had backed out.
Thus IPL has invited bids for new sponsorships. Tata Sons have quoted Rs 180 crore while BYJU’s offered Rs 150 crore for the sponsorship. But it’s Dream11 that walked away with the highest bid.
The 2020 edition of IPL will begin on September 19th in UAE.
