A truck carrying mobile phones was waylaid along the Andhra Pradesh-Tamil Nadu border late on Tuesday night. The gang of offenders stole phones worth Rs 6 crore from the vehicle.

According to the Nagari CI, the truck was carrying a consignment of 15,000 mobile phones and was on way to Maharashtra from Sriperumbudur near Chennai. The offenders thrashed the truck driver and pushed him off the vehicle. Then they tied him up and hijacked the vehicle.
The driver raised an alarm following which the locals and passersby came to his rescue and the driver lodged a complaint with the Nagari police.

Later, the police found the truck abandoned along Chennai-Tirupati highway near Nagari.

It was found that the robbers decamped with half the consignment in the truck by shifting it into another vehicle.

According to the cops, the truck was carrying phones worth approximately Rs 12 crore. The offenders took away eight boxes containing 7,500 mobile phones worth Rs 6 crore. Police officers are examining the footage of highway CCTV cameras to identify the robbers.
