The Women Newsmakers of 2022

Draupadi Murumu: Belonging to the snathali tribe, breaking the barriers of poverty and marginalisation, Draupadi Murumu went on to become the President of India at the top listed as the newsmaker in 2022.

Madhabi Puri: Madhabi is an IIM graduate who has become the first woman to head India’s market regulator Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI). Also she is the first non-IAS to hold that position.

Samantha Ruth Prabhu: Being a superstar in the south Indina film Industry, Samantha played as a terrorist in Raj & DK’s ‘Family Man 2’ and drooled fans with ‘Oo Antava Mama’ single from Pushpa.

Falguni Nayar: One of India’s self-made women billionaires, Falgui listed her company FSN E-Commerce Ventures that runs Nykaa, an online retailer of beauty and fashion products and made it into the news big time.

Jhulan Goswami: Goswami is an inspiration to all upcoming women cricketers in India and this ace pacer has recently retired from national duties. She played in 284 international matches for India and bagged 355 wickets across formats which is the highest by any woman cricketer in the world.

Nikhat Zareen: The world champion Nikhat Zareen who battled sexism, Leena Nair became the fifth Indian woman to win a gold medal at the IBA World Boxing Championships who achieved that feat this year.

Kiran Mazumdar Shaw: Shaw executive chairperson and founder of Biocon Limited and Biocon Biologics Limited, a biotechnology company made it to the news after Falguni of Nyka threatened her position as India’s richest self made woman.

Sudha Kongara: India’s film director Sudha Kongara’s ‘Soorarai Pottru’ starring Suriya and Aparna Balamurali has received multiple national awards that were announced this year.

Nirmala Sitharaman: The Finance and Corporate Affairs of India since, Nirmala Sitha Raman has been the center of attraction for every parliament meeting that has been held in this year for her firm and strong takes.

Roshini Malhotra: Indian billionaire businesswoman and the chairperson of HCL Roshini is the first woman to lead a listed company in India.
