Jio, A Major Threat To OTT Platforms?

Reliance Jio is a revolutionary company in the telecom sector. When every other telecom company charged huge amounts for internet data, Jio brought a revolution by giving free data to its users. After making people accustomed to its services, Jio started collecting fees from them. Now, it is following the same formula as its OTT platform, Jio Cinemas.

Mukesh Ambani made Jio Cinemas a free service to everyone. Anyone who has access to the internet can watch the IPL and various other films and web series for free on Jio Cinemas. When people get accustomed to the platform, the subscription charges will come into the picture.

Jio is also coming up with a lot of content to create a disruption in the OTT arena. Recently, the firm Jio Studios held a big event and announced around 100 of its upcoming films and web series. The list includes Shah Rukh Khan’s Dunki and Shahid Kapoor’s Bloody Daddy as well.

As of now, Jio Studios is focusing on Hindi content and very soon, it will come up with regional films and shows as well. On the whole, this massive announcement by Jio is now making other OTT giants like Netflix, Amazon Prime and Hotstar get worried. It looks like Ambani may create a revolution in the OTT arena very soon just like the way he did with the telecom sector.
