Ambedkar Grandson Wants Hyderabad As Second Capital Of India

On the 132th birth anniversary of Bharat Ratna, Dr. BR Ambedkar, a gigantic statue of his was unveiled on the banks of Hussain Sagar lake. The initiative led by Telangana government, invited Ambedkar’s grandson Prakash Ambedkar for the inauguration of the statue and it was a grand affair.

Speaking on the occasion, Ambedkar’s grandson, Prakash has placed a new demand before the Telangana government. “Dr BR Ambedkar always wanted a second capital for the country and his choice was Hyderabad. I hope the Telangana government considers this proposal and takes it forward.”

Prakash elaborated his statements that when Babasaheb Ambedkar was considering the security of the country, he believed that India needed another capital. “The prime capital, New Delhi is just 300 kilometres away from the Pakistan border and 500 kilometres from the China border. We have threats from neighbours and only a second capital will make us secure. Accordingly he looked for an alternative city that is suitable for a capital establishment. Somehow his idea could not move forward,” said Prakash.

Hyderabad as the second capital of India is not a new topic and there were many reports about it. Prakash Ambedkar bringing back this proposal calls for a fresh debate. But does the government in New Delhi has any thoughts on it?
