UK: Charles III Is Crowned As British King

Charles was crowned at Westminster Abbey in London during the ceremony with a medieval process and modern touch. Charles III is the new British King.

He is the first new monarch in 70 years. The coronation was first since 1953 and Charles is the first king since 1937. It is only the second to be televised and the first in color and streamed online.

Charles said, ‘I come not to be served, but to serve’. Charles III, 74, was anointed with holy oil and vested with an imperial mantle, and the ancient crown of St. Edward was placed on his head by the archbishop of Canterbury.

After the death of Queen Elizabeth II last year, her son Charles ascended to the throne, with Prince William next in line.

Prince Harry also attended the coronation but was pushed to the third row after many other royal family members.

As the King, Charles is the supreme governor of the Church of England and has described himself as a ‘Committed Anglican Christian.’

Rishi Sunak, the British Prime minister gave a reading from the Bible at the service and said the coronation as a proud expression of our history, culture, and traditions.

During the coronation, police arrested tens of protesters of the anti-monarchy group Republic as they planned to protest along the route of a procession for the coronation.
