In response to the proposed reports on resolution to rename India as Bharat, Bollywood actress Kangana Ranaut recently expressed her views on the matter. Taking to her Instagram and official X (formerly Twitter) accounts, the ‘Manikarnika’ actor shared her perspective on the topic.
Kangana Ranaut, who is currently preparing for the release of ‘Chandramukhi 2,’ highlighted that she had advocated for the name change from India to Bharat several years ago. She commended the move, stating, “And some call it black magic… It’s simply Grey matter, honey (smiling face emoticon). Congratulations to everyone!! Freed from a slave name. Jai Bharat.”
The actress also posted a detailed note on her X account, discussing the historical evolution of the country’s name. She questioned the significance of the name India and its origins. Kangana pointed out that ‘Sindhu’ had been altered to ‘Indus’ and questioned the variations like Hindos and Indos that led to the name India. She highlighted the historical reference of Bharat from the Mahabharata, emphasizing that the name Bharat holds profound meaning, unlike India.
Kangana Ranaut further delved into the historical context, mentioning that the term “Indian” had previously denoted a slave, given by the British, and even dictionaries reflected this definition. She asserted that the correct identity for the people of the country is Bhartiya, not Indians.
The discussion surrounding the potential renaming of India gained traction after an official Rashtrapati Bhavan invitation to a G20 delegation dinner was addressed from the President of Bharat, rather than the President of India, sparking curiosity about a rebranding effort.
