OTT Special: Game of Thrones as Animated Series

After the conclusion of the highly successful ‘Game of Thrones’ series in 2019, fans eagerly anticipate its spin-offs and prequels currently in various stages of development. George R.R. Martin, the acclaimed author, recently shared in his blog that three animated projects are underway.

Notably, the planned live-action series ‘Nine Voyages,’ centered on Sea Snake’s legendary voyages, will now be produced in animated format due to the prohibitive costs associated with its grand scale.

Several other spin-offs are in progress, including one focused on Aegon Targaryen’s Westeros conquest and a sequel series centered on Kit Harrington’s Jon Snow character. It may also be made in animation.

The first ‘Game of Thrones’ prequel to hit screens is ‘House of the Dragon,’ based on George R.R. Martin’s 2018 novel ‘Fire & Blood.’ Set two centuries before the original series, it explores the decline of House Targaryen. The eagerly awaited Season 2 is slated for a mid-2024 release.
