IPL 2020: Rajasthan Fails to Chase a Modest Total

In every match, Delhi Capitals are showing how strong a side they are. With a brilliant effort from all their bowlers, they won their match tonight against Rajasthan Royals by 13 runs. With this win, Delhi once again topped the points table and is further inching towards a playoff spot.

Delhi Capitals chose to bat after winning the toss. They didn’t get an ideal start as Jofra Archer got the wicket of Prithvi Shaw on the first ball of the innings. Soon, Rahane also went back to the pavilion. Then, Shikhar Dhawan (57) and Shreyas Iyer (53) settled the scoreboard and built a good partnership. Finally, Shreyas Gopal broke this partnership by dismissing Dhawan.

After that, Iyer completed his half-century and got out in the 16th over. No other batsman scored well in the death overs and as a result, Delhi managed to score 161/7 by the end of 20 overs. Jofra Archer got three wickets by giving away only 19 runs.

Rajasthan got a blistering start while chasing this total. When both the openers were on fire, Delhi’s Anrich Nortje dismissed Jos Buttler. In the very next over, Steve Smith was also dismissed. Then, Rajasthan was forced to slow down their game. When they were settling the crease well, Ben Stokes (41) and Sanju Samson (32) got out in the consecutive overs. Even Riyan Parag fell pretty soon.

Then, the whole responsibility fell on the shoulders of Robin Uthappa and Rahul Tewatia. The former got clean-bowled in the bowling of Nortje. Later, even Tewatia couldn’t do it due to a high required rate. Thus, Rajasthan ended their innings with a score of 148/8. Nortje and Tushar Deshpande took two wickets each. Delhi Capitals will next face Chennai Super Kings and Rajasthan will take on Royal Challengers Bangalore on October 17.
