An Indian student Raviteja K was shot and killed in New Haven, Washington. Raviteja was working as a food delivery driver. Raviteja belonged to Hyderabad.
26-year-old Raviteja was working for a Chinese restaurant in Hamden and the address called in for the delivery may have been a trap. He was attacked in what the police believe was a robbery turned deadly. The shooting occurred on Sunday afternoon near Shepard Street.
This is the first shooting incident in 2025. “It appears that the individual wasn’t involved in any dispute or anything like that, which is often what we see in violence in New Haven. Any violence is unacceptable, but particularly someone who appears to have been totally unrelated, is terrifying and tragic,” New Haven Mayor Justin Elicker said.
“We’ve seen this in the past where people call in fake orders from fake addresses, and then when they show up, the delivery drivers are robbed. It actually hasn’t happened in a while,” Police Chief Karl Jacobson said.
The police chief advised delivery drivers to confirm addresses, carry minimal cash, and avoid resistance during robberies.
