Apple joined hands with SpaceX and T-Mobile is bringing Starlink’s direct-to-cell capability to iPhones.
Apple’s iPhone devices are now eligible to test SpaceX-owned Starlink capability to provide coverage from space. T-Mobile and Elon Musk’s SpaceX are testing the Starlink cell network on a trial basis after receiving approval from the Federal Communications Commission.
‘Text via satellite’ will be offered in the Beta version, while the data and voice features will be added later, according to T-Mobile.
T-Mobile earlier listed a few Android smartphones as eligible devices to test the network, but now iPhone devices have been added. The feature would enhance the connectivity in the areas where the cellular networks are not reachable.
This is an alternative to Apple’s satellite communication service.
