Indian cricketer Krunal Pandya was detained at the Mumbai airport for allegedly being in possession of undisclosed gold and other valuables. Pandya was stopped by Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) upon his return from UAE after the completion of IPL 2020.
Pandya reportedly made purchases of valuables including gold chains and also has four luxury watches belonging to Rolex and Audemar Piguet which are said to be worth Rs 75 Lakh to Rs 1 crore, which was considered much above the permissible limits as per Indian laws. The DRI handed over Pandya to the customs department.
The customs reportedly questioned Pandya about the watches and he informed that 2 of the watches belong to him and the other are of his younger brother Hardik. The Mumbai Indians player informed the customs that he was unaware of the rules, apologised and even agreed to pay the penalties on the same.
Pandya landed in Mumbai at 5 PM and the customs stepped into the scene at 10:30 PM. In the mid-night he was let go by the authorities after paying fine.
