A Mumbai-based company is facing strong criticism after a job post went viral for allegedly saying ‘No South candidates’. The listing, which also said the role was for male techies only, sparked outrage online.
The job was for a technical role in Mumbai’s Vikhroli area and mentioned that applicants should have 2–3 years of experience, be available to join immediately, and work from the office. Candidates had to clear a virtual interview followed by an in-person round.
The post mentioned specific skills the company was looking for, such as database management, backup recovery, and disaster handling strategies. But what caused anger was the alleged discrimination based on region. At one side, our Indian Army fighting the external forces at the boarder, the discrimination based on the region north/south is a disturbing culture.
Screenshots of the job post and a candidate’s strong reaction quickly spread online. The applicant accused the company of regional bias, saying South Indians are often more welcoming to others, even when faced with disrespect.
This situation has reignited the debate about workplace discrimination and regional bias in hiring.
