Amid the controversy surrounding the tragic stampede at the Chinnaswamy Stadium, two senior officials of the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) have resigned. KSCA Secretary A. Shankar and Treasurer ES Jairam have resigned from their positions, citing “moral responsibility” towards the stampede at Chinnaswamy Stadium, which resulted in 11 deaths and injuries to several others. They have submitted their resignation letters to the KSCA President, Raghuram Bhat.
“Due to the unforeseen and unfortunate events that have unfolded in the last two days, and though our role was very limited, but owing moral responsibility, we wish to state that last night we have tendered our resignation to our respective posts as secretary and treasurer of the KSCA,” Shankar and Jairam wrote in their resignation letters.
Already, the Bengaluru Police filed an FIR against the RCB management and KSCA with respect to this case. Last evening, a complaint was filed against RCB player Virat Kohli as well. Yesterday morning, RCB’s Marketing and Revenue Head, Nikhil Sosale, was arrested in this case. Meanwhile, RCB hasn’t officially responded to Nikhil’s arrest. However, Nikhil challenged his arrest by filing a petition in the Karnataka High Court.
After winning the IPL title for the first time in 18 years, RCB hosted a victory parade and celebrations at Chinnaswamy Stadium. These celebrations resulted in a stampede-like situation outside the stadium as more than 3 lakh people came down to catch a glimpse of their favourite players with the trophy. This stampede resulted in 11 deaths and left many others injured.
