Air India Boeing Dreamliner 787 aircraft is involved in a crash near to Ahmedabad airport, minutes after the flight took off to London. The rescue operations are currently underway and the officials confirmed that 242 passengers on board. The initial reports suggest that more than 100 people died on the spot and some are taken to the hospital for further treatment.
As per the statement from Air India, “The flight, which departed from Ahmedabad at 1338 hrs, was carrying 242 passengers and crew members on board the Boeing 787-8 aircraft. Of these, 169 are Indian nationals, 53 are British nationals, 1 Canadian national and 7 Portuguese nationals.”
“We have also set up a dedicated passenger hotline number 1800 5691 444 to provide more information. Air India is giving its full cooperation to the authorities investigating this incident,” stated Air India.
Central Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu and Union home Minister Amit Shah rushed to Gujarat immediately to take a stock of the situation.
According to the reports, the plane took off at 1.39 PM from runway 23. However, moments later, Mayday call has been received to ATC. It is also reported that there is no response from the pilot calls from ATC. And then, the plane crashed outside airport perimeter.
