In a shocking incident, Gaurav Kundi, a 42-year-old Indian-origin man, died of irrevocable brain injury in Australian police custody.
A few days ago, he was arrested from outside his home and during the process, Kundi lost consciousness. He was then admitted to a hospital in a critical condition with severe brain injury. Kundi passed away earlier this week.
Reports indicated that Kundi’s arrest involved a lot of drama as patrol police suspected an altercation between him and his wife. His wife Amritpal Kaur told the police that there was no violence involved and that they were fighting loudly.
However, police continued with their arrest and she even made a video of the arrest. Kaur alleged that Kundi was pinned to the ground with a knee on his neck. Kaur told the police that it was just a fighting between them. Kaur repeatedly told the cops that Kundi was drunk and loud but not violent.
However, when the cop knelt on his neck and restrained him, Kuni became unconscious and Kaur became scared.
Kundi’s arrest and admission to the hospital turned into a controversy leading to commissioner’s inquiry.
A senior investigation officer conducting the inquiry reviewed the body
CCTV footage of the arrest and confirmed that cops did not apply their knee on Kundi’s neck at any time during the arrest. His head was not forced into the car or roadway at any point. Further investigation is on to ascertain if there was any force applied by the cops that led Kundi to fall unconscious.
