Bangalore Rapido Driver Slaps Woman: Two Sides of the Story

Three days ago, an altercation between a rapido driver in Bangalore and a woman passenger went viral on social media. The video that came into circulation revealed that the rider slapped the woman. Today, the police officials took the rider into custody and even filed an FIR against him. But, there is two versions to the entire story.

According to what went viral first and from the woman’s point of view, she booked a ride from BTM Layout to Jayanagar 3rd Block. According to her, the driver was reckless and drove very rash. She kept on pointing it out to him which got him angry. After the ride is completed, the altercation grew and he slapped her in rage and even told her, “Go back to your country.”

On the other side, the driver today tells that it was the woman who initiated the attack. Supporting his statement was another video that is going viral now. According to him, he took a short cut to cut down her time but she has been insulting him.

Since the rider does not speak good English, she even asked him if he know driving. He admitted that he told her to Go back to her country by which, he meant state but not country as he does not know English. He mentioned that she attacked him twice first, prompting him to slap her.

The police registered a First Information Report (FIR) against the Rapido driver under Sections 115(2) (attempt to cause hurt), 352 (assault or criminal force), and 79 (uttering obscene words in a public place) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
