A fire broke out on an Air India flight shortly after it landed in Delhi from Hong Kong on Tuesday evening. Fortunately, all passengers and crew members were safe and managed to exit the plane without any issues.
The flight, AI 315, had already landed and was parked at the gate when smoke was noticed coming from the aircraft’s auxiliary power unit (APU). The incident occurred while passengers had started getting off the plane. The APU, which powers the aircraft when engines are off, automatically shut down as designed.
Air India confirmed the fire and stated that the safety systems worked as intended. There was minor damage to the aircraft, and it has now been grounded for inspection. Authorities, including the aviation regulator, have been informed.
Airport officials acted quickly to put out the fire and are now looking into what caused the incident.
