A major cyber scare has hit Gmail users worldwide. Reports suggest that nearly 2.5 billion accounts have been exposed after a hacking group reportedly named ShinyHunters managed to steal sensitive data.
Google has acknowledged the breach and urged users to act immediately. The company is advising everyone to reset their passwords, enable two-factor authentication, and stay alert to suspicious emails or phone calls.
According to security experts, the hackers tricked IT teams by pretending to be company staff and gained access through Google’s Salesforce system. Though Google clarified that most of the stolen data was limited to basic business details like names and contact info, experts warn that even this can be exploited for phishing and scams.
Google has also started notifying affected users, asking them to double-check for old phishing attempts or emails demanding unusual payments. Cybersecurity specialists stress that small leaks can lead to big dangers if users drop their guard.
For now, the safest move for Gmail users is to secure their accounts before it’s too late.
