The Telangana government is introducing a new initiative aimed at addressing the growing number of divorces in the state. In recent years, separations among couples have increased sharply, often due to minor misunderstandings or lack of communication. To help prevent such issues, the state has decided to make pre-marital counseling a mandatory step before marriage.
As part of this program, counseling centers will be set up across all 33 districts in Telangana. These centers will operate initially through the existing Sakhi One Stop Centers and later may get their own dedicated buildings. The Women and Child Welfare Department has already issued orders for the project, which has been approved by Minister Seethakka with a budget of ₹5 crore.
Each counseling center will have a team that includes psychologists, legal advisors, and social workers. They will guide couples on how to handle emotional, financial, and relationship challenges that may arise after marriage. The goal is to help couples understand each other better and build stronger, more stable relationships.
Officials believe this proactive step will reduce the number of divorce cases and strengthen family bonds across the state. The pre-marital counseling centers are expected to open to the public soon.
