Can Elon Musk Become the World’s First Trillionaire?

Elon Musk, the world’s richest man, might soon become even richer. Tesla has proposed a huge 10-year pay package worth 1 trillion dollars for him. If this plan is approved, Musk’s share in Tesla will almost double from 13 percent, possibly making him the world’s first trillionaire.

To get an idea of how big this amount is, one trillion dollars is more than the total income of countries like Singapore, Switzerland, and Sweden. Tesla shareholders will soon meet in Texas to vote on this plan. If it goes through, Musk will get the money in shares and stock options as Tesla reaches certain targets.

Tesla says this plan rewards Musk for his key role in helping the company grow. The goal is to make Tesla worth around 8.5 trillion dollars and earn 400 billion dollars in profits over the next ten years.

However, many people think giving such a huge amount to one person is unfair, especially when millions of people still live in poverty. The United Nations once said it would take about 40 billion dollars a year to end world hunger. That’s less than half of what Musk could earn from this deal. Critics also worry this might encourage other companies to give massive pay packages to their top executives.

Musk says it’s not about the money. He wants to keep control over Tesla’s new projects, especially the humanoid robots called Optimus. These robots are designed to work like humans and take on simple, repetitive jobs. Musk believes they could help solve poverty by doing tasks that people don’t want to do. He thinks that in the future, 80 percent of Tesla’s value could come from these robots.

Tesla’s chairperson Robin Denholm said Musk is very important for the company’s future. She believes that without him, Tesla could lose value and direction.

But some major investors disagree. Norway’s sovereign wealth fund, Tesla’s biggest shareholder, has already said no to the plan. Two major advisory firms, Glass Lewis and Institutional Shareholder Services, also asked shareholders to reject the offer.

Tesla says Musk won’t get the money all at once. He will earn it step by step as he reaches 12 performance goals. Still, the vote will decide if Elon Musk becomes the world’s first trillionaire or if the brakes are applied on Tesla’s plan.
