Work Will Become Optional, Predicts Elon Musk

Tech billionaire Elon Musk predicted a future where AI will be dominant and work will becomes optional and eventually money will lose relevance.

Sharing his views at the US-Saudi Investment Forum, Musk said that in the future, work will completely become optional as all the mundane and routine works would be taken up by AI. In the future world, money will become irrelevant.

The world would be dominated by intelligent machines and people need not work out of compulsion but opt to work out of choice and only for fun, like playing a video game or tending a garden.

Musk said that employment in the future would be like playing sports or a video game or something like that. Comparing future employment to hobbies which are done purely out of enjoyment, he said that people can go to the store and buy vegetables or grow the same in their back yard. It is much harder to grow vegetables in the back yard but some would still prefer doing it because they like to do it. That will how work would be, completely optional, he said.

Musk spoke of the same prediction in the past too. He said as work becomes optional, money would also become irrelevant and probably, there would be no poverty in the entire world. Once machines take over the hard labour, the AI and robotics will continuously be improved and at one point, money will stop being relevant, he guessed.

Musk views of a cashless, work-free utopia and it has to be seen whether it would really take shape and also the frenzy the people have to experience in AI-dominated world.
