Air travel across India faced a sudden shakeup after a serious software fault was detected in Airbus A320 aircraft. What started as a technical alert soon turned into a global disturbance as Airbus confirmed that unusual solar radiation had interfered with the data systems that help control the aircraft. This unexpected issue pushed aviation authorities to demand an immediate update for thousands of planes operating worldwide.
The A320 family is one of the most widely used fleets on the planet and India alone operates more than five hundred of these aircraft. With airlines needing to run mandatory checks and resets, over two hundred flights across the country were hit with delays and last minute changes. Passengers at several airports were caught off guard as schedules shifted throughout the day.
Airlines in India responded quickly but the impact was unavoidable. IndiGo issued public alerts about possible delays while Air India and Air India Express instructed passengers to confirm their flight status before leaving for the airport. Sources within the industry estimate that at least two hundred aircraft in India will need complete system upgrades, which may continue to affect operations for a few more days.
The problem was not limited to India. Air France cancelled dozens of flights and Avianca in Colombia said that most of its daily operations were affected. Since the software correction requires time and careful testing, global schedules are expected to remain tight until every aircraft completes the mandatory process.
For now, travelers have been advised to stay updated and be prepared for further changes as normal operations slowly return.
