The annual ranking of the world’s most powerful and efficient passports for 2026 has been released, and Singapore continues to hold the top position.
The Singapore passport is considered the most powerful in the world, granting visa free access to 192 countries globally. No other passport currently offers this level of access, and even the United States passport does not come close.
Japan and South Korea share the second position, with their passports allowing visa free entry to 188 countries.
Interestingly, the United States passport is ranked tenth on the list, offering visa free access to 179 countries. While many people believe the US passport is the most powerful, the rankings show that this is not the case.
Coming to India, the Indian passport is ranked 80th on the list. Despite being the world’s largest democracy, India stands much lower in terms of passport strength. However, there is a positive development, as India has improved its ranking from 85th in 2025 to 80th in 2026.
The Indian passport currently provides visa free access to 55 countries. With stronger diplomatic ties and policy measures, the value and reach of the Indian passport are expected to improve further in the coming years.
At the other end of the list is Afghanistan, which has the weakest passport in the world. It offers visa free access to just 24 countries globally.
