The most used instant messaging application in the world, WhatsApp often faces complaints about security and privacy concerns. A similar scenario is being observed now as a court case has been filed against WhatsApp saying the social platform is able to decrypt and read the messages from private conversations.
A plaintiff filed a case in US court, saying that WhatsApp has been secretly able to access the private conversations on the application and called for legal measures.
However, the official clarification from WhatsApp on this matter is expectedly, assuring as the social media platform confirmed that all the conversations on their app are completely encrypted.
“Your WhatsApp messages are private. We use the open-source Signal protocol to encrypt them.
• Encryption happens on your device
• Messages are encrypted before leaving your device
• Only the intended recipient has the keys to decrypt messages
• The message encryption keys are not accessible to WhatsApp or Meta
Any claims to the contrary are false.” The statement from WhatsApp read. But considering the fact that this case is in court, WhatsApp will have to prove their claims in the court of law, which is the deciding factor here.
