It is already known that several tech and software companies across the globe have been carrying out layoffs at an aggravated rate. And now we have a leading and legendary Media publication, which is following a similar format as they have fired 1/3rd of their workforce in a single day.
The discussion now is about the legendary Washington Post media organisation which has been in operation for nearly 150 years and is now undergoing downsizing.
The Washington Post, owned by billionaire Amazon founder Jeff Bezos, announced major job cuts Wednesday, saying that “painful” restructuring was needed. The company has reportedly fired several hundreds of employees effective immediately.
The company has witnessed a steep decline in the newspaper circulation and also online subscriptions in the recent times and this warranted a sizing down operation.
The Washington Post has asked almost all of its employees to work virtually today, which is an indication of the layoffs, and they have even fired several of their Indian employees.
‘This ranks among the darkest days in the history of one of the world’s greatest news organizations,’ former editor Marty Baron said.
