Since yesterday, there has been a lot of discussion on social media about leading United States retail chain Costco coming to Hyderabad. This discussion started after Costco posted about their upcoming operations in Hyderabad, which led to people thinking the leading chain would establish an outlet in the city.
But subsequent clarity on this matter is suggesting that there is very little chance that Costco might actually open a retail store, but instead, they are looking to operate their backend team.
While people were celebrating the possible arrival of Costco retail network in Hyderabad, as it was expected that this outlet would largely cut down the prices of commodities and retail items.
But a social media post in this regard read “This is fake news, Costco is not opening a new retail store in India. It’s a GCC facility in Hyderabad, which Costco announced in Q4 2025. The confusion arises when people focus on keywords instead of reading the full context.”
Another post clarified “Not a warehouse, but a Global Capability Centre (GCC) of Costco as a tech & research hub for global ops in tech, data analytics, finance & digital systems. 1,000 jobs initially, scaling up ahead. This is not a retail outlet but just a backend tech outsource.”
For now, we have to patiently wait for clarity on this matter, as there is no affirmative update on whether Costco would be setting up a backend operation here or whether they would establish a retail outlet as people are hoping.
