Lost PAN Card at Function, Gets ₹600 Cr IT Notice

It is that time of the year when salary, employees and business owners are preparing to file their income tax and make necessary payments to the department. And in tune with this, we have a few peculiar stories that keep happening every year.

Going into the story, roadside clothes washer (Dhobi) named Jitendra Kumar has shockingly received an income tax notice for ₹600 crore worth transactions.

When asked to comment on the same, Jitendra Kumar said he is a very small washerman operating in Ajmer district of Rajasthan, and he has no clue how he is accused of transacting Rs 600 crore.

But nevertheless, the IT department had served him the notice and asked to explain the 600 crore transaction that was registered on his PAN Card. The fact that a roadside washerman received such a massive notice, shocked the nearby vendors and residents.

It was a later revealed that Jitendra Kumar had lost his PAN card a couple of years ago in a function and he hadn’t reported the same.

It is now suspected that this PAN card was used by unauthorised individuals who set up a company and did a massive transactions of ₹600 crores. In the end, the department got a hold of Kumar and are questioning him.

This incident also highlights how India is largely witnessing scams through stolen identities and unauthorised usage of PAN Cards. This is the reason why everyone is wanted to report missing or stolen ID cards immediately.
