The much famed Outer Ring Road in Hyderabad has been making headlines quite often these days due the rise in the frequency of accidents due to unsafe driving practices.
Stretching 158 Kms with eight lanes, it enables connectivity with different national highways and also engineered for high speed vehicles. But, over speeding and other errors have turned this into a death corridor in recent times.
In a span of 24 hours, two major accidents happened on this ORR. On Friday, a gory and heart-wrenching accident took place and this unfortunate incident has taken away the lives of six people from the same family.
The speeding car in which they were travelling rammed into a heavy truck stationed without any signal or warning, leading to huge crash and multiple fatalities. The grisly visuals have disturbed people across Telugu states.
Even before this ghastly accident is forgotten, another similar incident unfolded on Saturday afternoon when a speeding car overturned at exit-14 on ORR near Tukkuguda, injuring four persons travelling in it. Of the four, the condition of one person is said to be severe.
The car was bound towards Kanha Shanti Vanam in Shamshabad from Nandigama. Highway patrol and police have immediately reached the accident spot and cleared the traffic. Luckily, there are no deaths on this occasion.
Due to repeated preventable accidents which are claiming tens of lives every year, the ORR is turning out to be a death trap and concerns are being raised frequently for taking strict measures to impose adequate traffic rules.
Nearly 400 people lost lives in the last five years. The main factor behind most of the accidents is said to be over speeding.
