Dr. Deepak Reddy was serving as an assistant professor in the Department of Electrical Engineering. He joined the institute in September 2022 after completing his studies and working at other academic centers. The incident came to light after he did not respond to phone calls from colleagues. When security personnel entered his quarters, he was found hanging.
Police officers quickly shifted him to the Dr. B. C. Roy Hospital located on the IIT campus. Doctors at the hospital examined him and declared him dead. The police sealed the room and sent his body for a post-mortem test to find out the exact cause of death.
The police registered a case of unnatural death and started a detailed investigation into the matter. Officials informed his family in Hyderabad right after the incident. Investigators stated that they are looking into all possible reasons for his extreme step, including potential personal or family issues.
The sudden death of the young professor from Telangana came a huge shock to students and faculty members of the institute. Campus authorities described him as a talented teacher and researcher.
This is the third mysterious death at the campus since April. Earlier, two students committed suicide after jumping from the building and hanging in the quarters.
