IIT Student Used ChatGPT in Exam Hall, Found Dead Later!

Artificial intelligence has become a part of day-to-day activities for many people these days. Well, many people are using it for positive reasons, there are a few controversial incidents regarding the fair usage of artificial intelligence.

On that note, we have the case of an IIT student who has reportedly committed suicide after highly controversial incident involving the usage of ChatGPT in his exam hall.

A second-year student of IIT Bombay died by suicide after he was found using a mobile phone during an examination.

The deceased was identified as Sahil Wakode, a second-year student in the Department of Energy Science and Engineering. He happened to be caught in the examination hall while uploading the question paper on ChatGPT and asking for answers.

According to IIT Bombay, Wakode had uploaded the examination question paper to ChatGPT to obtain answers during the test.

The institute said no disciplinary proceedings had been initiated against him despite him getting caught. Instead, he was counselled by the examination instructor and Head of Department, who assured him that the incident would not adversely affect his academic career.

But shortly, after this incident, this young student was found dead inside his Hostel room, and it is suspected that he has committed suicide. Perhaps extreme anxiety about the disciplinary action could have warranted this incident, opine experts on this matter.
