The UK strain (virus variant) of Covid-19 has creeped into India as 6 people with travel history of the UK tested positive. Among the infected people, three of them are from Bengaluru, two from Hyderabad and one from Pune.
Around 33,000 passengers arrived from the UK between November 25 and December 23 as per the Civil aviation ministry and out of them 114 have tested positive for the virus while 6 people showed the UK strain. The officials are now busy tracing the people who have come in contact with the six people and are likely to put them in quarantine.
Meanwhile the 6 people are kept in separate isolation rooms and are getting treated with extreme care. The Union Health Ministry is expected to make a statement regarding the impact of UK strain in India.
On the other hand, the Union Home Ministry has stepped into action and has extended the restrictions till January 31st. Depending upon the situation, the home ministry might take a call on more restrictions but they are assessing the situation every hour. If possible the Union Civil aviation ministry might extend the suspension of flights from the UK after December 31st too.
